2 | | WHEREAS, Parental alienation is the psychological term |
3 | | used to denote the unacceptable manipulative
process used by |
4 | | one parent to alienate a child from the other parent by |
5 | | disparaging conduct or words to
encourage the child to dislike |
6 | | or break communication ties with the other parent; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, This process is most often used in the course of |
8 | | the parents' divorce or separation; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, While divorce is the most common situation where |
10 | | parental alienation is used, it also has
been known to happen |
11 | | during the course of unhappy marriages or relationships that do |
12 | | not end in
divorce, as one parent seeks the exclusive |
13 | | companionship and alliance of the children or of a particular
|
14 | | child in the family; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Parental alienation can be viewed as a form of |
16 | | child abuse because it denies a child,
through cruel |
17 | | manipulation, a loving a supportive relationship with both |
18 | | parents; and is not in the best
interest of the child; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, The unhappiness bred by parental alienation has |
20 | | been known to lead to child kidnapping,
murder, and suicide, or |
21 | | other destructive behavior as has been reported in the media; |
