Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Allows surviving spouses of retired members of the General Assembly with retired member of the General Assembly plates to retain those plates for as long as they remain residents of Illinois and transfer the registration to their name within 90 days of the retired member's death. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 3-606.1 as follows:
|
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-606.1) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-606.1)

7 | | Sec. 3-606.1. Retired members of the General Assembly. Upon |
8 | | receipt
of a request from a retired member of the General |
9 | | Assembly, accompanied
by the appropriate application and fee, |
10 | | the Secretary of State shall issue
to such retired member |
11 | | plates bearing appropriate wording or abbreviations
indicating |
12 | | that the holder is a retired member of the General Assembly.
|
13 | | Such plates may be issued for a 2 year period beginning January |
14 | | 1st of
each odd-numbered year and ending December 31st of the |
15 | | subsequent even-numbered year. Upon the death of a retired |
16 | | member who has been issued a retired member of the General |
17 | | Assembly plate, that member's surviving spouse shall be |
18 | | entitled to retain the plate so long as the surviving spouse is |
19 | | a resident of Illinois and transfers the registration to his or |
20 | | her name within 90 days of the death of the retired member.

21 | | "Retired member" means any individual who (a) has served
as |
22 | | a member of the General Assembly for a minimum of 6 years, or |
23 | | (b) is 62
or older, has served as a member of the General |
