2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the passing of Berde Sutchar on December 25, 2012; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar was a lifelong Chicagoland |
5 | | resident, growing up in the Wicker Park and Humboldt Park |
6 | | neighborhoods, raising her children in West Rogers Park, and |
7 | | spending the last 40 years in Evanston; she grew up with her |
8 | | sisters, Adelle and Jeanette, above the family's small store on |
9 | | Chicago's north side on West Armitage; her parents were Hyman |
10 | | and Hilda Scher; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar married Victor Sutchar on July 5, |
12 | | 1942, and worked in an office during World War II while her |
13 | | husband served in Italy; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar attended Northeastern Illinois |
15 | | University and received her degree in elementary education and |
16 | | taught 5th grade at both Aggissez and Rogers Elementary Schools |
17 | | in Chicago for the next 25 years; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Berde Sutchar served several terms as president of |
19 | | the North Shore Chapter of the Council of Jewish Women; she was |
20 | | a member of Beth Emmet Congregation in Evanston; as a |
21 | | descendant of Russian Jews, she opened up her home, especially |
