SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John F. "Jack" Barrick of Lincoln, who
4passed away on September 2, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Barrick was born on March 4, 1944, in
6Lincoln; he was the son of Lewis A. "Zoo" and Mildred Feldman
7Barrick; he married Linda Sparks on January 13, 1968, in
8Lincoln; and
 
9    WHEREAS, John Barrick attended St. Mary's Grade School and
10graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1962; he
11subsequently worked on the family farm and at the Barrick
12Transfer Company until he joined the United States Marine Corps
13in 1966; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Barrick served his country with pride as a
15member of the 3rd Marine Division; he served for 12 months and
1626 days in the Republic of Vietnam and was promoted to the rank
17of sergeant; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Barrick purchased Barrick Transfer, a
19trucking business and beer distributorship that later became
20Barrick Distributing, Inc, in 1978, and retired in 2004; at one
21time, Barrick Transfer sponsored 21 bowling teams, enough to

1establish its own bowling tournament; he also served as an
2East-Lincoln Township Road Commissioner for 4 years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, John Barrick was a member of Holy Family Church in
4Lincoln; he was a lifetime member of the Cronin Brothers
5Veterans of Foreign Wars 1756 in Lincoln, where he served as
6commander from 1970 to 1971, 1980 to 1981, and 1999 to 2011 and
7earned All-State Commander twice; he was also a member of the
8Robert Graue Marine Corps League, American Legion Post 263,
9AMVETS, 40 & 8, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Associated Beer
10Distributors of Illinois, Eagles Lodge 2708 of Lincoln, the
11Lincoln Jaycees, the Greater Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce,
12and Teamsters Local 916; and
 
13    WHEREAS, John Barrick enjoyed racing sprint cars from 1965
14to 1975; his car, Black Deuce, had the most wins in the history
15of the sprint car sport; he and his wife were sponsors of the
16Abe Lincoln Grand Prix in downtown Lincoln and one of seven
17couples who founded the Abe Lincoln Quarter Midget Association;
18he also served as president of Midwest Racing Association and
19was a car owner in the United States Auto Club's Silver Crown
20Division; and
 
21    WHEREAS, John Barrick was preceded in death by his parents
22and his maternal and paternal grandparents; and

1    WHEREAS, John Barrick is survived by his wife, Linda; his
2children, Laura (Mike) Kavanaugh, Christina (Marty) Clementz,
3and John (Heather) Barrick; his grandchildren, Sasha (Cory)
4Bruns, Carissa Talkington, Tanner Clementz, Morgan and Erin
5Barrick, Joe (Tiffany) Kavanaugh, and Cathy (Derek) Hopp; his
6great-grandchildren, Brenley and Ashlan Bruns, Alivia Payne,
7Coleton Hopp, Katie Aderman, and Killian, Anya, Ainsley, and
8Daken Kavanaugh; his great-great-grandchild, Hunter Aderman;
9his stepmother, Docia Barrick; his brother, Ed Barrick; his
10stepsisters, Kathy (Mike) Watkins and Donna Remlinger; his
11stepbrothers, Donald (Linda) Daniels and William Daniels; and
12his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of John F. "Jack" Barrick;
16and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of John Barrick as an expression of our
19sympathy.
