2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
John F. "Jack" Barrick of Lincoln, who |
4 | | passed away on September 2, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, John Barrick was born on March 4, 1944, in |
6 | | Lincoln; he was the son of Lewis A. "Zoo" and Mildred Feldman |
7 | | Barrick; he married Linda Sparks on January 13, 1968, in |
8 | | Lincoln; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, John Barrick attended St. Mary's Grade School and |
10 | | graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1962; he |
11 | | subsequently worked on the family farm and at the Barrick |
12 | | Transfer Company until he joined the United States Marine Corps |
13 | | in 1966; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, John Barrick served his country with pride as a |
15 | | member of the 3rd Marine Division; he served for 12 months and |
16 | | 26 days in the Republic of Vietnam and was promoted to the rank |
17 | | of sergeant; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, John Barrick purchased Barrick Transfer, a |
19 | | trucking business and beer distributorship that later became |
20 | | Barrick Distributing, Inc, in 1978, and retired in 2004; at one |
21 | | time, Barrick Transfer sponsored 21 bowling teams, enough to |

1 | | establish its own bowling tournament; he also served as an |
2 | | East-Lincoln Township Road Commissioner for 4 years; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, John Barrick was a member of Holy Family Church in |
4 | | Lincoln; he was a lifetime member of the Cronin Brothers |
5 | | Veterans of Foreign Wars 1756 in Lincoln, where he served as |
6 | | commander from 1970 to 1971, 1980 to 1981, and 1999 to 2011 and |
7 | | earned All-State Commander twice; he was also a member of the |
8 | | Robert Graue Marine Corps League, American Legion Post 263, |
9 | | AMVETS, 40 & 8, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Associated Beer |
10 | | Distributors of Illinois, Eagles Lodge 2708 of Lincoln, the |
11 | | Lincoln Jaycees, the Greater Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, |
12 | | and Teamsters Local 916; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, John Barrick enjoyed racing sprint cars from 1965 |
14 | | to 1975; his car, Black Deuce, had the most wins in the history |
15 | | of the sprint car sport; he and his wife were sponsors of the |
16 | | Abe Lincoln Grand Prix in downtown Lincoln and one of seven |
17 | | couples who founded the Abe Lincoln Quarter Midget Association; |
18 | | he also served as president of Midwest Racing Association and |
19 | | was a car owner in the United States Auto Club's Silver Crown |
20 | | Division; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, John Barrick was preceded in death by his parents |
22 | | and his maternal and paternal grandparents; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, John Barrick is survived by his wife, Linda; his |
2 | | children, Laura (Mike) Kavanaugh, Christina (Marty) Clementz, |
3 | | and John (Heather) Barrick; his grandchildren, Sasha (Cory) |
4 | | Bruns, Carissa Talkington, Tanner Clementz, Morgan and Erin |
5 | | Barrick, Joe (Tiffany) Kavanaugh, and Cathy (Derek) Hopp; his |
6 | | great-grandchildren, Brenley and Ashlan Bruns, Alivia Payne, |
7 | | Coleton Hopp, Katie Aderman, and Killian, Anya, Ainsley, and |
8 | | Daken Kavanaugh; his great-great-grandchild, Hunter Aderman; |
9 | | his stepmother, Docia Barrick; his brother, Ed Barrick; his |
10 | | stepsisters, Kathy (Mike) Watkins and Donna Remlinger; his |
11 | | stepbrothers, Donald (Linda) Daniels and William Daniels; and |
12 | | his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
15 | | his family and friends, the passing of John F. "Jack" Barrick; |
16 | | and be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of John Barrick as an expression of our |
19 | | sympathy.
