| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Ken J. McNatt, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | September 4, 2012; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ken McNatt was born and raised in Loveland, | ||||||
6 | Colorado; he married his wife, Dolores, in 1954; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Ken McNatt left college in 1942 to join the United | ||||||
8 | States Navy, where he became a pilot in the Pacific theater | ||||||
9 | during World War II and rose up to the rank of lieutenant | ||||||
10 | junior grade; while wounded, he successfully landed his badly | ||||||
11 | damaged plane after the plane's pilot had been shot and killed, | ||||||
12 | an action that saved the lives of 4 other crew members; he | ||||||
13 | received a Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and | ||||||
14 | the Air Medal, among other awards, for his bravery; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, After the war, Ken McNatt finished college at the | ||||||
16 | University of Denver in 1948 and then began a career in the | ||||||
17 | sales department at Exxon; he retired after 35 years of service | ||||||
18 | in 1983; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, After moving to Wheaton in 1965, Ken McNatt became | ||||||
20 | involved in a broad range of service activities; he served as | ||||||
21 | president of the Arrowhead Homeowners Association and was a |

1 | township precinct committeeman; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, In 1975, Ken McNatt joined the Warrenville Fire | ||||||
3 | Protection District board; over the next 36 years, he helped | ||||||
4 | oversee the transformation of the district from an | ||||||
5 | all-volunteer department to a much more professionally managed | ||||||
6 | district with a partially paid staff; he remained the | ||||||
7 | district's trustee emeritus after stepping down from the board | ||||||
8 | in 2011; in 1989, he was elected to serve as a trustee in | ||||||
9 | Milton Township, where he served 4 terms before retiring in | ||||||
10 | 2005; as a trustee, he won broad support in 1998 for his | ||||||
11 | formation of the senior-oriented Salt program; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Ken McNatt was a recipient of the senior Good | ||||||
13 | Citizen award from the City of Wheaton in 2009 and was named a | ||||||
14 | veteran of the month by the Illinois Department of Veterans | ||||||
15 | Affairs in 2011; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Ken McNatt is survived by his wife; his daughters, | ||||||
17 | Gwen McNatt and Mary Helen Gibson; his 6 grandchildren; and his | ||||||
18 | great-grandchild; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
20 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
21 | his family and friends, the passing of Ken J. McNatt; and be it | ||||||
22 | further
