2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply |
3 | | saddened to learn of the death of Naval Petty Officer, Gunners |
4 | | Mate 2nd Class Dion Rashun Roberts, who passed away on |
5 | | September 22, 2012; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts was born on April 3, 1987, |
7 | | to John and Janice Roberts of North Chicago; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts graduated from North |
9 | | Chicago Community High School in 2005; he participated in |
10 | | numerous sports and was NJROTC all 4 years of high school; he |
11 | | was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Waukegan; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts joined the Navy upon |
14 | | graduating from high school; he underwent basic training at |
15 | | Recruit Training Command Great Lakes; he was killed while |
16 | | serving his country in Jalaabad, Afghanistan, in support of |
17 | | Operation Enduring Freedom; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts was preceded in death by his |
19 | | grandfather, David Huggins; his uncle, Alphonso Ball; and his |
20 | | aunt, Kandi Williams; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Petty Officer Roberts is survived by his parents, |
2 | | John and Janice Roberts; his sister, Jaleesa Roberts; his |
3 | | nephew, Jeremiah Roberts; his grandmothers, Anna Mae Bell and |
4 | | Joan Huggins; his aunts, Virginia Henley, Helen (Timothy) |
5 | | Clark, and Sherri (Steve) Sullivan; his uncles, William |
6 | | (Joanne) Jenkins and David Huggins; a host of great aunts, |
7 | | cousins, and friends; his God sister, Sheena Adams; his God |
8 | | brother, Vincent Adams; and a special friend, Jamie Plecker; |
9 | | therefore, be it

10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
12 | | Petty Officer Roberts, and we extend our sincere condolences to |
13 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
14 | | further
|
15 | | RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Petty Officer Roberts |
16 | | and his willingness to serve his country, which led to
him |
17 | | making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further |
18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
19 | | presented to the family of Petty Officer Roberts as an |
20 | | expression of our deepest sympathy.
