SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Rita G. Harvard, of Naperville, who passed away on June 15, 2012; and

WHEREAS, She was born on June 28, 1929, in Aurora to Walter and Grace Fredenhagen; she met her husband-to-be at Naperville High School, from which they both graduated in 1947; they were married for 31 years; and

WHEREAS, She attended Monmouth College earning a bachelors of science in biology and was inducted into the Mortar Board Honor Society; she spent two years teaching in Dixon; she taught Sunday School at Grace United Methodist Church for 12 years, also serving as Sunday school superintendent and helping design the church building; and

WHEREAS, She served as secretary and treasurer for her family business, Prince Castles/Cock Robin Companies from 1972 to 1985 and then at the Naperville Creamery Co. from 1985 to 2000; she volunteered at Edward Hospital as a member of the Institutional Review Board; she was a member of the Fire and Police Board of Commissioners for 8 years; and

WHEREAS, She received many awards, including the Gael Swing Award of Meritorious Service from North Cental College for her involvement as a trustee for 28 years, the Heritage Society Hall of Honor, the Naperville chapter of the A.A.U.W. "Woman of the Year", the DuPage County YWCA Outstanding Woman of the Year, and the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Awards; she joined the Rotary Club of Naperville in 1985 and was elected the first female president and Rotarian of the Year; she also served as grand marshal of the Labor Day Parade and was selected to be included in the Marquis Who's Who of American Women; and

WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Grace; her brother, James Fredenhagen; her sister, Jeanne Fredenhagen Moen; and her step-son, Kent Harvard; and

WHEREAS, She is survived by her husband, John; her children, Susan (Keith) Kroskoz, Jodie (Dave) Anderson, and Tom (Laura) Castagnoli; her step-daughters, Kelly (Dean) Pelland and Kerry (Preston) Irwin; her brother, Ted Fredenhagen; her eight grandchildren; her great-grandson; her six step-grandchildren; and her three step-great-granddaughters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rita G. Harvard, and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her family as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
