SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Arthur Dietmeyer of Gurnee, who
4passed away on April 6, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer was born on May 9, 1927, in
6Burlington, Iowa; he moved to Waukegan as a child and graduated
7from Waukegan High School in 1944; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer was a member of the United States
9Army; he served in the 703rd Military Police Battalion in
10Washington D.C., where he attained the rank of sergeant while
11helping to guard President Harry Truman; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After leaving the Army, Robert Dietmeyer enrolled
13at the University of Iowa, where he graduated in 1950; he then
14served as Manager of Corporate Benefits at Abbott Labs, where
15he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1986; while at
16Abbott, he worked towards and earned his master's degree from
17Marquette University; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer served as President of the Holy
19Name Society of the St. Anastasia Parish in Waukegan and
20volunteered on the Gurnee Village Civil Service Commission from
211988 to 1991; he was involved with numerous charities,

1including the Knights of Columbus, the Salvation Army, and the
2American Cancer Society; he was also a founding member of the
3St. Paul's Church Parish in Gurnee and served as a little
4league baseball coach for all 5 of his sons with the North Side
5A.C. in Waukegan; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer was preceded in death by his wife
7of 46 years, Catherine Efinger Dietmeyer, and his parents,
8Viola and Fred Dietmeyer; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Robert Dietmeyer is survived by his sons, David
10(Nanette), Thomas, John, Philip (Susan), and James (Dara); his
11daughters, Patricia Hook and Mary Minehart (Darwin); his
12brother, Richard (Thelma); his grandchildren, Tony, Kelly, and
13Keith Morse and Colleen, Desiree, and Jimmy Dietmeyer; and his
14many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17his family and friends, the passing of Robert Arthur Dietmeyer;
18and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Robert Dietmeyer as an expression of
21our sympathy.
