2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Katie Singletary, who passed away on |
4 | | April 22, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Katie Singletary was born on April 17, 1929, in |
6 | | Roundpond, Arkansas; her parents were Earnest and Louise |
7 | | Burton; she married Harrison Singletary in 1952; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Katie Singletary attended Woodbine School in |
9 | | Shelby, Mississippi where she played her favorite sport, |
10 | | baseball; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, While living in Mississippi, Katie Singletary |
12 | | attended Hopewell Church; after relocating to Chicago, she |
13 | | joined the Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church under the |
14 | | leadership of W.L. Upshire and later Bishop Henry Holloway; she |
15 | | also enjoyed attending the Greater Rock Church under the |
16 | | leadership of Pastor Floyd James and the Hope Community Church |
17 | | under the leadership of Pastor Steve Epting; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Katie Singletary enjoyed bowling with the |
19 | | Saturday Night Good Times Bowling League; she was also a long |
20 | | time member of the Beautifying Club and she loved studying and |
21 | | hearing the word of God; and |
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Katie Singletary will be fondly remembered by her |
2 | | family and friends for her infectious smile and her |
3 | | affectionate nature; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Katie Singletary was preceded in death by her |
5 | | parents; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Katie Singletary is survived by her sons, James |
7 | | (Faye), Earnest (Karen), and Otto (Camille); her |
8 | | grandchildren, Latonia Brown (Denoris), Anthony, Denise |
9 | | Foster, DeVontae Blanks, James Jr., Candace, Christopher, and |
10 | | Savannah; her 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings, James |
11 | | Wright (Elizabeth), Mary Carr (James), and Martha Smiley |
12 | | (Eddie); her uncle, AC Childress (Tammy); her many loving |
13 | | nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; her spiritual mother, |
14 | | Ms. Bessie McCloud; and the extended family that she cared for |
15 | | after her retirement, Robin, Nina, Sullivan, Bailey, Emily, |
16 | | Jack, Isabella, and Cecilia; therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
19 | | her family and friends, the passing of Katie Singletary; and be |
20 | | it further
