2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Ella Louise Ivy, who passed away on April |
4 | | 1, 2012; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Ella Ivy was born on February 1, 1931, in Venice, |
6 | | Illinois; her parents were Harold Jerome and Helen Louise |
7 | | Clemons; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Ella Ivy grew up in Venice and attended schools in |
9 | | the Madison school district before graduating from Dunbar High |
10 | | School in 1950; as a child, she worked in her family's ice |
11 | | cream parlor; she was raised to believe in Jesus Christ and, at |
12 | | the age of 15, was filled with the Holy Ghost in the Church of |
13 | | God in Christ; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Ella Ivy and her husband, C.B. Ivy, were married |
15 | | on July 16, 1950; the young newlywed couple subsequently |
16 | | returned to Mississippi to live for a short period before |
17 | | becoming a part of the Great Migration of African-Americans |
18 | | from the South to the North in search of better economic |
19 | | opportunities; they later settled back in Venice, where they |
20 | | briefly lived in an apartment converted from a chicken coop |
21 | | before eventually buying a house at 1232 Cleveland Avenue in |
22 | | East St. Louis, where she was a faithful and loving wife and |

1 | | mother to her husband and her 5 children; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Ella Ivy served as a faithful member of The Church |
3 | | of Christ the Divine and the Pentecostal Power church |
4 | | organizations in several capacities, including secretary and |
5 | | President of the Young People's Department; as leader of the |
6 | | Young People's Department, she founded the Young People's |
7 | | Willing Workers ministry, a ministry that is still in service |
8 | | today; after her husband was called into the ministry, she |
9 | | began serving in a new capacity as the wife of a District |
10 | | Elder, Pastor, and Bishop; the couple traveled often to various |
11 | | churches under their ministry in Robbins and Sledge, |
12 | | Mississippi, and Oxford, Mississippi, while also maintaining a |
13 | | ministry at 1433 Gross Street in East St. Louis; she was a |
14 | | dedicated church mother, whose mission was to teach and guide |
15 | | women how to conduct themselves as women of God; she was also a |
16 | | devout speaker, teacher, and counselor, guiding women in the |
17 | | way of Godliness and virtuous behavior, as well as a singer in |
18 | | the church's choir; and

19 | | WHEREAS, Ella Ivy was preceded in death by her husband, |
20 | | Bishop C.B. Ivy, and her parents; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Ella Ivy is survived by her children, Clarence |
22 | | (Donis) Ivy, Christopher (Diane) Ivy, Margaret Ivy, Belynda |
23 | | (Oliver) Hamiliton, and Timothy (Karen) Ivy; her 15 |

1 | | grandchildren; her 19 great-grandchildren; her siblings, |
2 | | Harold (Girthal) Clemons, Margaret Clemons, William |
3 | | (Gwendolyn) Clemons, Lloyd (Inez) Clemons, Anna Ruth |
4 | | Clemons-Shelton, Charles Clemons, Barbara (Charles) Reid, |
5 | | Jacqueline (Leon) Glaster, and Arthur Clemons; and her many |
6 | | nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
9 | | her family and friends, the passing of Ella Louise Ivy; and be |
10 | | it further
|
11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
12 | | presented to the family of Ella Ivy as an expression of our |
13 | | sympathy.
