SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John J. Zabukovec of Waukegan, who passed away on December 25, 2011; and

WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was born on November 19, 1927, in Waukegan; his parents were John and Mary Zabukovec; and

WHEREAS, John Zabukovec graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1945, where he was active in academics and athletics; he was a member of the "W" Club, History Club, and Senior Government; and

WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was the owner of the 922 Club and the Bel-View Lounge; he later worked for the Clerk of the Circuit Court, before he became a custodian with the Waukegan School District; after he retired from the school district, he worked at the Lake Bluff Golf Course, where he loved to serve coffee and provide advice to the golfers; and

WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was a member of the All Nations Bowling Tournament, the Moose Club, the AFU, and KSKJ/St. Joseph's Lodge 53; he was a member of Mother of God Church, where he and his wife co-chaired dinner dances for the church; more recently, he was a member of St. Dismas Parish; and

WHEREAS, John Zabukovec's love of sports began in early childhood; he served as the batboy for the Zabukovec All-Stars, his father's baseball team; he also enjoyed bowling, playing basketball, football, and softball, music, dancing, solving crossword puzzles, card tricks, and especially the Chicago Cubs; he was also well known as a Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune expert; and

WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was preceded in death by his father, John Zabukovec; his mother, Mary Zabukovec Chamernik; his step-father, John Chamernik; his father-in-law, Joseph Zalaznik; his sisters, Mildred Terchek and Alice Pasiewicz; and his brother-in-laws, Edward Pasiewicz and John Terchek; and

WHEREAS, John Zabukovec is survived by his loving wife, Jennie (Zalaznik) Zabukovec; his daughters, Jamie Zabukovec (Larry Thompson), Judy Derra, Janice (Richard) Davis, and Julie Zabukovec (Rob McKay); his grandchildren, Tesia Derra and Meredith and John Tanner Davis; his great-grandchildren, Adelina, Bekim, and Lule (Derra) Alijoski; his sister, Mary Ann (Albert) Gilbert; his brother-in-law, Fred (Marie) Zalaznik; his step-sister, Mary Alice (Edward) Morrissey; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, Joan (Bill) Marsh, Eddie (Gail) Pasiewicz, Geri Gilbert, Janet (Marty) Anderson, Larry (Debbie), Gerry, and John Zalaznik, Bill (Jeannie) Marsh, Theresa (John) Brouillard, and Michael, Lindy, Eric, Torie, and Alex Pasiewicz; and his many other relatives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John J. Zabukovec; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Zabukovec as an expression of our sympathy.
