2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
John J. Zabukovec of Waukegan, who passed |
4 | | away on December 25, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was born on November 19, 1927, in |
6 | | Waukegan; his parents were John and Mary Zabukovec; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, John Zabukovec graduated from Waukegan Township |
8 | | High School in 1945, where he was active in academics and |
9 | | athletics; he was a member of the "W" Club, History Club, and |
10 | | Senior Government; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was the owner of the 922 Club and |
12 | | the Bel-View Lounge; he later worked for the Clerk of the |
13 | | Circuit Court, before he became a custodian with the Waukegan |
14 | | School District; after he retired from the school district, he |
15 | | worked at the Lake Bluff Golf Course, where he loved to serve |
16 | | coffee and provide advice to the golfers; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was a member of the All Nations |
18 | | Bowling Tournament, the Moose Club, the AFU, and KSKJ/St. |
19 | | Joseph's Lodge 53; he was a member of Mother of God Church, |
20 | | where he and his wife co-chaired dinner dances for the church; |
21 | | more recently, he was a member of St. Dismas Parish; and

1 | | WHEREAS, John Zabukovec's love of sports began in early |
2 | | childhood; he served as the batboy for the Zabukovec All-Stars, |
3 | | his father's baseball team; he also enjoyed bowling, playing |
4 | | basketball, football, and softball, music, dancing, solving |
5 | | crossword puzzles, card tricks, and especially the Chicago |
6 | | Cubs; he was also well known as a Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune |
7 | | expert; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, John Zabukovec was preceded in death by his |
9 | | father, John Zabukovec; his mother, Mary Zabukovec Chamernik; |
10 | | his step-father, John Chamernik; his father-in-law, Joseph |
11 | | Zalaznik; his sisters, Mildred Terchek and Alice Pasiewicz; and |
12 | | his brother-in-laws, Edward Pasiewicz and John Terchek; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, John Zabukovec is survived by his loving wife, |
14 | | Jennie (Zalaznik) Zabukovec; his daughters, Jamie Zabukovec |
15 | | (Larry Thompson), Judy Derra, Janice (Richard) Davis, and Julie |
16 | | Zabukovec (Rob McKay); his grandchildren, Tesia Derra and |
17 | | Meredith and John Tanner Davis; his great-grandchildren, |
18 | | Adelina, Bekim, and Lule (Derra) Alijoski; his sister, Mary Ann |
19 | | (Albert) Gilbert; his brother-in-law, Fred (Marie) Zalaznik; |
20 | | his step-sister, Mary Alice (Edward) Morrissey; his nieces, |
21 | | nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, Joan (Bill) Marsh, |
22 | | Eddie (Gail) Pasiewicz, Geri Gilbert, Janet (Marty) Anderson, |
23 | | Larry (Debbie), Gerry, and John Zalaznik, Bill (Jeannie) Marsh, |

3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
5 | | his family and friends, the passing of John J. Zabukovec; and |
6 | | be it further

7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to the family of John Zabukovec as an expression of |
9 | | our sympathy.
