2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Robert Newton Kinne of Peoria, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on December 4, 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born on April 14, 1930, in Chicago to | ||||||
6 | Harold and Dorothy Kinne; he was extensively traveled, having | ||||||
7 | flown over one million miles and visiting over 90 countries on | ||||||
8 | every continent except Africa; he was a certified private | ||||||
9 | pilot, having learned to fly in Luscombes and Aeroncas while a | ||||||
10 | student at the University of Illinois in the late 1940s; he was | ||||||
11 | also a graduate of Bradley University's College of Commerce; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army during the | ||||||
14 | Korean War, where he was commended for several improvements to | ||||||
15 | his unit, ultimately reaching the rank of Technical Sergeant | ||||||
16 | and later transferring to the Army Reserve; he then went to | ||||||
17 | work for Caterpillar Tractor Company, eventually accepting an | ||||||
18 | overseas posting to Santiago de Chile in 1963; some years later | ||||||
19 | he relocated his family to southeast Asia; he later accepted an | ||||||
20 | assignment as Director of Caterpillar's operation in the former | ||||||
21 | Soviet Union during its communist regime; and

22 | WHEREAS, After returning to the United States, he spent |

| |||||||
1 | several years facilitating national conferences for the | ||||||
2 | benefit of Caterpillar's extensive dealership network; toward | ||||||
3 | the end of his career he was also instrumental in Caterpillar's | ||||||
4 | sponsorship of a program assisting dealers in family legacy | ||||||
5 | business planning resulting in a Harvard Business School study | ||||||
6 | published in 1997; he retired from Caterpillar with 45 years of | ||||||
7 | dedicated service; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, He was a member of the Singapore American Club; | ||||||
9 | The Victoria Recreation Club (VRC); the LRC (Hong Kong); and a | ||||||
10 | life member of the American Club of Hong Kong; he was an avid | ||||||
11 | tennis player; he was a lifelong gourmand and he was active for | ||||||
12 | many years in a local (private) Peoria gourmet group; he was | ||||||
13 | also a member of the Illinois Valley Yacht and Canoe (IVY) | ||||||
14 | Club, where he served on the board and immensely enjoyed | ||||||
15 | spending his time in recent years; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his | ||||||
17 | brother, Gilbert; and his sister, Dorothy Mae; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Robert Kinne is survived by his wife of nearly 54 | ||||||
19 | years, Donna; and his children, Kevin (Ashley), Cindy | ||||||
20 | Macmillan, and Michael (Perla); he loved animals and is | ||||||
21 | survived by his devoted English Bulldog, Brunhilde, and a bevy | ||||||
22 | of felines; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
3 | his family and friends, the passing of Robert Kinne; and be it | ||||||
4 | further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of Robert Kinne as a symbol of our | ||||||
7 | sincere sympathy.
