2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Joseph J. Gentile, who passed away on |
4 | | October 10, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago, grew up on the Near West |
6 | | Side, and was a longtime resident of the Western suburbs his |
7 | | entire life; he was a graduate of St. Ignatius and attended the |
8 | | University of Notre Dame before joining the United States Navy; |
9 | | he served in the South Pacific theater during World War II; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Upon returning from the war, he received a degree |
11 | | in psychology from Loyola University in 1948; he taught briefly |
12 | | at the University, and then began a career as a car salesman; |
13 | | he opened a Chrysler and Plymouth dealership in Barrington in |
14 | | 1985 and was named "the Baron of Barrington"; he retired in |
15 | | 2003; and

16 | | WHEREAS, In 1994, he purchased an Elmhurst radio station |
17 | | and renamed it WJJG-AM, based on his initials; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, He was a faithful supporter of St. Ignatius and |
19 | | Loyola; in 1996, the basketball arena at Loyola was named the |
20 | | Joseph J. Gentile Center in his honor; and
