2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Donald James Randa of Chicago, who passed |
4 | | away on October 13, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, He was born in Oak Park; he graduated from Morton |
6 | | High School in 1939; he attended the University of Chicago, and |
7 | | later the University of Michigan, before joining the United |
8 | | States Army in 1942; he served stateside in the medical corps |
9 | | during World War II; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, While stationed at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, |
11 | | Michigan, he met his future wife, Mary, who was a civilian |
12 | | undergoing training to become a physical therapist; after he |
13 | | left the military in 1946, they returned to the Chicago area |
14 | | and were married in 1947; and

15 | | WHEREAS, He began his career with Life Newspapers after his |
16 | | father insisted he come to work for him; he began by selling |
17 | | ads and dropping off bundles of newspapers; he later became |
18 | | vice president in charge of sales and general business |
19 | | operations; and

20 | | WHEREAS, He later became co-owner of the company and |
21 | | executive vice president; after his retirement in the late |
