|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Joyce David "Squeak" Bailie of Herrin, |
4 | | who passed away on September 29, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Bailie was born on July 13, 1924, in Herrin; |
6 | | his parents were James M. "Pop" and Nona "Sugar" (Stroud) |
7 | | Bailie; he married Jean Green on October 27, 1950, at the First |
8 | | Presbyterian Church of Herrin; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from Herrin High School in 1942, |
10 | | Joyce Bailie immediately enlisted in the United States Navy |
11 | | during World War II to train as a fighter pilot; he was |
12 | | preparing to deploy to the Pacific theatre when the war ended, |
13 | | having achieved the rank of lieutenant commander; he |
14 | | subsequently served in the active Naval Reserve until 1966, |
15 | | when he transferred to retired reserve status; he then |
16 | | continued to serve our country proudly for many years before |
17 | | being honorably discharged; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Bailie ran a series of businesses in |
19 | | downtown Herrin, including Bailie's Bus Station, Bailie's Toy |
20 | | and Hobby Shop, and Bailie's Fitness Center; many youngsters |
21 | | spent their after-school hours at his "shop", where he, his |
22 | | parents, and his wife served as an unofficial "after-school |

1 | | program"; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Bailie was a longtime member of the First |
3 | | Presbyterian Church of Herrin, the Herrin American Legion, and |
4 | | the VFW; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Bailie enjoyed sport and trophy fishing, bow |
6 | | hunting with his son and his friends, gardening, and spending |
7 | | time with his friends and family; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Bailie was preceded in death by his parents; |
9 | | his wife; his son, Jay Martin Bailie; his brother, James M. |
10 | | Bailie; his nephew, Timothy Bailie; his niece, Lynn Chapman |
11 | | Medlin; and his sister, Peggy J. Lindsay; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Joyce Bailie is survived by his daughter, Wendy |
13 | | Bailie and her husband, Ron Carey; his son, Steve Bailie and |
14 | | his wife, Barbara; his grandchildren, Josh Bailie and his wife, |
15 | | Becky, Lauren Merz and her husband, Court, Mark Bailie, Maggie |
16 | | Jean Bailie, Jay Bailie Carey, and Jennifer Pike and her |
17 | | husband, Shawn; his great-grandchildren, Lucas and Coleman |
18 | | Bailie and Layla Merz; his nephews, Mark Chapman and his wife, |
19 | | Amanda, Brian and his wife, Paula Chapman, James and his wife, |
20 | | Susan Bailie, and Barry and his wife, Marianne Lindsay; his |
21 | | niece, Lynn (Lindsay) and her husband, David Ramsey; his many |
22 | | great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends; and his best |

1 | | friends, Debbie Anderson and Wendell "Hap" Green; therefore, be |

3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
5 | | his family and friends, the passing of Joyce David "Squeak" |
6 | | Bailie; and be it further

7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
8 | | presented to the family of Joyce Bailie as an expression of our |
9 | | sympathy.
