2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Clyde H. Wiseman, Jr. of Godfrey, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 9, 2011; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was born July 6, 1923, in Clarksburg, West | ||||||
6 | Virginia and spent most of his life in and around Alton; he | ||||||
7 | attended public schools and Shurtleff College in Alton and | ||||||
8 | graduated from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, In 1948, he became a member of the original | ||||||
11 | announcing staff at Radio Station, WOKZ Alton, where he worked | ||||||
12 | 17 years, best known as the station's news director; in a 1959 | ||||||
13 | citywide election, he won a seat on Alton's City Council and 6 | ||||||
14 | years later was elected Mayor; after leaving the mayor's office | ||||||
15 | he was selected to represent the Illinois Department of | ||||||
16 | Business and Economic Development in the St. Louis Metropolitan | ||||||
17 | Area; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, In 1974, he assumed leadership of the Wood River | ||||||
19 | Township Chamber of Commerce and was chairman of the | ||||||
20 | Transportation Task Force of the East-West Gateway | ||||||
21 | Coordinating Council in St. Louis; in 1976, he was named | ||||||
22 | Director of Urban Affairs at the St. Louis Regional Commerce |

1 | and Growth Association, where he retired in 1988; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Clyde and Edith Delphene Wilson were married in | ||||||
3 | 1948
and she preceded him in death; he later married Jacqueline | ||||||
4 | Hirlinger; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, He was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church | ||||||
6 | USA and a coordinator in the Lay Witness Movement of the United | ||||||
7 | Methodist Church; he organized the Alton Area Presbyterian Men | ||||||
8 | and established the Christian Men's Council; he was a member of | ||||||
9 | the Masonic Fraternity, Scottish Rite Bodies, and Shrine; he | ||||||
10 | was recipient of the Chevalier and Legion of Honor Degrees from | ||||||
11 | the International Order of De Molay; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Clyde Wiseman, Jr. is survived by his daughter, | ||||||
13 | Susan J. Turley; his son, Clyde; his wife, Jacqueline D. | ||||||
14 | Hirlinger; his stepchildren, Kenneth and Christopher Hirlinger | ||||||
15 | and Susan Elliott; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; | ||||||
16 | and his step-grandchildren; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
19 | his family and friends, the passing of Clyde H. Wiseman, Jr.; | ||||||
20 | and be it further

21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
