2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Paul Albert Lewis of Peoria, who passed |
4 | | away on September 17, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Paul Lewis was born in Aurora; his parents were |
6 | | Phillip Albert and Josephine Ann Steiner Lewis; he married |
7 | | Edana Whittles Lahvic on July 11, 1981; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Paul Lewis graduated from Grinnell College with a |
9 | | bachelor's degree in history; he entered the United States |
10 | | Marine Corps in 1971; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Paul Lewis worked as an admissions counselor for |
12 | | Grinnell College on the East Coast until he entered the |
13 | | University of Chicago Law School, where he graduated in 1978; |
14 | | he went on to practice law at the Alschuler firm in Aurora |
15 | | before starting his own firm; after working for the Illinois |
16 | | Tollway for several years, he moved to Peoria in 2006 to work |
17 | | for Miller, Hall, and Triggs, where he later became a partner |
18 | | and served faithfully until his retirement in 2010; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Paul Lewis was active in local politics for many |
20 | | years, having served on the Chamber of Commerce, the VNA Board, |
21 | | the Family Counseling Board, and the Salvation Army Board; he |

1 | | gave blood regularly through the Heartland Blood Center; he was |
2 | | involved with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as leader of |
3 | | Troop 11 for many years; he played French horn with the |
4 | | American Legion Band; as a member of the Wesley United |
5 | | Methodist Church in Aurora, he served as a lay leader and Bible |
6 | | study teacher; in Peoria, he was a member of Northwest United |
7 | | Methodist Church, where he led several Bible studies as well; |
8 | | he served at the conference level in both areas; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Paul Lewis was preceded in death by his brother, |
10 | | Johnson Arthur Lewis; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Paul Lewis is survived by his wife, Edana; Edana's |
12 | | son, William Lahvic, and his wife, Jen Lahvic; his children, |
13 | | Beth (Lewis) Jackson (husband, Matt Jackson), JoAnna Lewis |
14 | | (husband, John Labelle), Walter Lewis, and Mary Kate Lewis; his |
15 | | grandchildren, David, Mark, Alyssa, Jackson, and David; his |
16 | | siblings, Brad Lewis (wife, Cathy Lewis), Linda Lewis (husband, |
17 | | Stephen Smith), Scott Lewis (wife, Camille Witos), and DeAnn |
18 | | Lewis (husband, Henry Coll); his nephew, Toby Smith; his |
19 | | parents; his uncles, Bill Steiner (wife, Ann Steiner) and Tom |
20 | | Lewis (wife, Jean Lewis); and his mother-in-law, Mary Fouts; |
21 | | therefore, be it
