SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to  
3learn of the death of
Daniel Ruettiger, who passed away on June 
418, 2011; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Daniel Ruettiger was born and lived in Joliet; he 
6was a graduate of St. Bernard Grade School and Joliet Catholic 
7High School; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Daniel Ruettiger served his country with pride and 
9distinction as a B-17 gunner in the United States Army Air 
10Forces during World War II; he fought in the Air Offensive 
11Europe, serving in southern France, Tunisia, Sicily, and Italy; 
12he was awarded numerous honors for his service; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Daniel Ruettiger was a member of St. Mary 
14Magdalene Church, the Knights of Columbus, St. John the Baptist 
15Church in Wisconsin, and the Holy Name Society; he also served 
16as a CCD teacher; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Daniel Ruettiger retired after many years of 
18service as a process supervisor at the Union Oil Refinery; he 
19subsequently retired to Wisconsin; and
  
 
20    WHEREAS, Daniel Ruettiger was the recipient of the

1Providence Catholic Cor Unum Award in 2004 in honor of his work 
2with the Catholic Church; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Daniel Ruettiger was preceded in death by his 
4parents, Eugene and Theresa (Sievert) Ruettiger; his siblings, 
5Robert, Leo, Sylvester, Lambert, Bernard, and Lillian; his 
6son-in-law, Charles; and his grandchild, Joseph; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, Daniel Ruettiger is survived by his beloved wife 
8of 66 years, Elizabeth Jane "Betty" (Mandella); his children, 
9Jean Ann Voelker, Mary Eileen (David) Brockup, Daniel (Cheryl) 
10Ruettiger, Carol (John) Surges, Rosemarie (Jeff) Haiduke, 
11Betsy (Paul) Gallo, Tim (Kelly) Ruettiger, Francis (Kathy) 
12Ruettiger, Mickey (Bobbie) Ruettiger, John (Nancy) Ruettiger, 
13Rita (Xaje) Hasanaj, Norma (Ted) Berman, Bernie (Patti) 
14Ruettiger, and Mark (Mary Kay) Ruettiger; his grandchildren, 
15Lisa, Tommy, Doug, Jessica, Daniel, Annie, Laurie, Magen, 
16Bobbie Jo, Jeffrey, Hawk, Andrea, Melissa, Renee, Lynette, 
17Vincent, Theresa, Dominic, Daniel, Jacob, Mary, Jaime, 
18Shelley, Angela, Rebekah, Samantha, Katelyn, Johnny, Dougie, 
19Diana, Elizabeth, Donika, Adem, Briana, Gabriella, Briton, 
20Joseph, Kayla, Daniel Oscar, Alexa, Dominic, Maria, Michael,

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL 
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 
3his  family and friends, the passing of Daniel Ruettiger; and be 
4it further
  
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
6presented to the family of Daniel Ruettiger as an expression of 
7our sympathy.
