|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Robert J. Neuneker of La Grange, who |
4 | | recently passed away; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker served in the Army Engineer Corps |
6 | | during World War II; he graduated from Western Illinois |
7 | | University and married Lorna Campbell from Stronghurst in 1950; |
8 | | they attended Ball State University, earning their master's |
9 | | degrees in education in 1955; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker's work as a vocational teacher and |
11 | | counselor allowed him to emphasize the importance of choosing a |
12 | | career at a very early stage in life and led him to initiate |
13 | | Career Day, an annual event in which many business, industry, |
14 | | and community leaders from the Chicago area spoke to students |
15 | | at Lyons Township High School about career choices; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker's 50-year residency in La Grange |
17 | | was highlighted by community service; he was a member and took |
18 | | leadership roles in the Kiwanis Club, Park District, Little |
19 | | League, YMCA, and Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the |
20 | | Village of La Grange; he also served on the Lyons Township |
21 | | Mental Health Commission; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker was a member of the Hinsdale |
2 | | Unitarian Church; he was also a recipient of the Humanitarian |
3 | | Service Award from the local NAACP chapter; he worked |
4 | | energetically on issues such as civil rights, fair housing, and |
5 | | equal opportunity in employment for many years; his |
6 | | recreational interests included gardening, tent camping in all |
7 | | the lower 48 states, and foreign travel to 40 different |
8 | | countries; he loved the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls and any |
9 | | sport or activity in which his children or grandchildren were |
10 | | involved; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Robert Neuneker is survived by his wife, Lorna; |
12 | | his daughter, Rona N. James, and her spouse, Larry W. James, |
13 | | M.D.; his sons, Devin and Brant Neuneker, along with Brant's |
14 | | spouse, Alisa; his grandchildren, Myles, Rachel, Zach, and Emma |
15 | | Neuneker; and his siblings, Rose Ritter, Ruth Smith, and Max |
16 | | Neuneker; therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
19 | | his family and friends, the passing of Robert J. Neuneker; and |
20 | | be it further
|
21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
22 | | presented to the family of Robert J. Neuneker as a symbol of |
23 | | our sincere sympathy.
