2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Glenola Lashley of Chicago, who passed |
4 | | away on March 30, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, She was born December 31, 1937 in Memphis, |
6 | | Tennessee; her mother was Lena Carr and her stepfather was |
7 | | Tillman Moore; she was married to Lester Lashley and was the |
8 | | devoted mother of ten children; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, She was Born Again at Tabernacle Baptist Church, |
10 | | an event which she considered the greatest thing that ever |
11 | | happened in her life; a deeply religious lady, she also |
12 | | attended several other churches over the years, including New |
13 | | Friendship, Evangelist Hope Church, Monument of Faith, Comfort |
14 | | Ye My People, and Crusaders Church; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, She contributed greatly to her community through |
16 | | her work at the S.O.S. House and Brothers Reaching Out, the |
17 | | Garfield Counseling Center, the Chicago Juvenile Advisory |
18 | | Council, Reaching the Mark Foster Care, and other |
19 | | organizations; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, She also served as LSC President, Block Club |
21 | | President, First DAC Chairperson for the 7th District CAPS |
|

1 | | Program (Chicago Police Department), Director of the New |
2 | | Friendship Junior Choir, and Vice President of the 17th Ward |
3 | | Democratic Organization, and she was one of the founders of the |
4 | | 7th District Pastors of Englewood; and |
5 | | WHEREAS, She was employed at Independence Bank; as an |
6 | | Administrative Assistant and later Chief of Staff for the 17th |
7 | | Ward Alderman; and as Community Specialist and District Manager |
8 | | at the Englewood Office of the Chicago Department of Human |
9 | | Services; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester |
11 | | Lashley; her mother, Lena C. Moore; her brother, Paul; her |
12 | | sisters, Dicie and Irene; her son, Lee; her grandsons, Akeem |
13 | | and Stephen; and her great-grandchild, Zareia; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Glenola Lashley is survived by her children, |
15 | | Robert, Joanie, Joseph (Denise), Lena (Terry), Juanita |
16 | | (Walter), Lester (Pamela), Erick (Theresa), Glenda, and John |
17 | | (Victory); her grandchildren, Andre, Robert Jr., Robin |
18 | | (Darrin), Devin, Rahsaan, Raini, Jerryce (Lee), Jerrita, |
19 | | Joseph, Jasmine, Jamelle, Joseph II, Charmaine, Lateeba, |
20 | | Jamiyla, Brandon, Tyese, Alton, Michael (Tichanti), Rashad, |
21 | | Shadra, Shalah, Rocelia (Demolis), Cornell, Marcus, Rashawn, |
22 | | Malcolm, Walter Jr., Selina, Alexandra, Patricia, Carisha, |

11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
13 | | her family and friends, the passing of Glenola Lashley; and be |
14 | | it further
|
15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
16 | | presented to the family of Glenola Lashley as a symbol of our |
17 | | sincere sympathy.
