2 | | WHEREAS, Children's interstitial lung disease includes a |
3 | | group of rare life-threatening lung diseases in children that |
4 | | may lead to progressive, incurable lung scarring or life-long |
5 | | lung problems; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Certain children's interstitial lung diseases can |
7 | | progress quickly, often causing disability or death within |
8 | | first two years of life; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Children's interstitial lung diseases are one of |
10 | | the leading causes of lung transplantation in children, due to |
11 | | scarring and an irreversible loss of the lung tissue's ability |
12 | | to transport oxygen; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Children's interstitial lung disease is not the |
14 | | same as adult interstitial lung disease; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Children's interstitial lung diseases are caused |
16 | | by poorly understood genetic abnormalities that affect |
17 | | families, infection, bleeding in the lungs, autoimmune |
18 | | diseases, or abnormal lung development; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Children's interstitial lung diseases are often |
20 | | mis-diagnosed or under-diagnosed; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, There is no proven cure or treatment for |
2 | | children's interstitial lung diseases; and |
3 | | WHEREAS, Limited funding is available for these rare lung |
4 | | problems in children; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, A need has been identified to increase research |
6 | | funding, awareness, and detection of these mis-diagnosed and |
7 | | under-diagnosed disorders, as well as all incarnations of |
8 | | children's interstitial lung disease; therefore, be it
|
9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the need |
11 | | to pursue research into the causes, a treatment, and an |
12 | | eventual cure for children's interstitial lung disease; and be |
13 | | it further

14 | | RESOLVED, That we support the work of advocates and |
15 | | organizations in educating, supporting, and providing hope for |
16 | | individuals who suffer from children's interstitial lung |
17 | | disease; and be it further |
18 | | RESOLVED, That we congratulate advocates and organizations |
19 | | for their efforts to educate the public about children's |
20 | | interstitial lung disease, while funding research to help find |
