2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Carl Myrent of Wilmette, who passed away |
4 | | on February 26, 2010; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Carl Myrent was born in Chicago and grew up in |
6 | | Humboldt Park; after graduating from Tuley High School in 1939, |
7 | | he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the |
8 | | University of Chicago; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Carl Myrent served his country with pride and |
10 | | distinction as a sergeant in the United States Army during |
11 | | World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Carl Myrent had a long and distinguished career in |
13 | | education; he taught history at Englewood High School and Von |
14 | | Steuben High School before becoming a teacher at Mather High |
15 | | School in Chicago in 1959; he served as a history teacher, |
16 | | assistant principal, and briefly as acting principal before |
17 | | retiring in 1982; during his tenure at Mather, he cultivated a |
18 | | strict and calculated, yet friendly way to treat misbehaving |
19 | | students and was known as "Myrent the Tyrant" by his |
20 | | colleagues; despite the nickname that was given to him, he held |
21 | | the respect and regard of his colleagues and his students, even |
22 | | those for whom he had to administer discipline; and
