SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Carl Myrent of Wilmette, who passed away
4on February 26, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Carl Myrent was born in Chicago and grew up in
6Humboldt Park; after graduating from Tuley High School in 1939,
7he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the
8University of Chicago; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Carl Myrent served his country with pride and
10distinction as a sergeant in the United States Army during
11World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Carl Myrent had a long and distinguished career in
13education; he taught history at Englewood High School and Von
14Steuben High School before becoming a teacher at Mather High
15School in Chicago in 1959; he served as a history teacher,
16assistant principal, and briefly as acting principal before
17retiring in 1982; during his tenure at Mather, he cultivated a
18strict and calculated, yet friendly way to treat misbehaving
19students and was known as "Myrent the Tyrant" by his
20colleagues; despite the nickname that was given to him, he held
21the respect and regard of his colleagues and his students, even
22those for whom he had to administer discipline; and

1    WHEREAS, Carl Myrent enjoyed traveling, listening to jazz,
2and baseball; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Carl Myrent is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his
4son, Glenn; his daughter, Debra; his sister, Helen Hirsh; and
5his granddaughter; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8his family and friends, the passing of Carl Myrent; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Carl Myrent as an expression of our
12sympathy.
