2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of
Roger William Grandt of Arlington |
4 | | Heights, who passed away on January 20, 2011; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Roger Grandt was born on September 29, 1925, in |
6 | | Arlington Heights; his parents were Charles F. and Martha (nee |
7 | | Neumann) Grandt; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Roger Grandt served his country with pride and |
9 | | distinction as a member of the United States Navy during World |
10 | | War II; he was a member of the Arlington Heights American |
11 | | Legion Merle Guild Post #208 and Arlington Heights VFW Post |
12 | | #981; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Roger Grandt was the owner of Grandt's Super Shell |
14 | | station in Arlington Heights for over 50 years; Grandt's Super |
15 | | Shell was well known throughout his community for the 15-foot |
16 | | long rocket on the station's canopy; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Roger Grandt was a 3rd (of current 5th) generation |
18 | | member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he was an active |
19 | | member; he was also a founding member of the Lutheran Laymen's |
20 | | League (LLL), chairman of the Trustees, chairman of the School |
21 | | Board, and a member of the mission that founded St. Peter |

1 | | Lutheran Church in Middleburg, South Africa; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Roger Grandt was preceded in death by his son, |
3 | | David Grandt; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Roger Grandt is survived by his wife of 60 years, |
5 | | Geraldine (nee Marr); his children, Craig (Deborah) Grandt, |
6 | | Tracey (George) Surprenant; his daughter-in-law, Christine |
7 | | Grandt; his grandchildren, Scott and Todd Grandt, Nicole (John) |
8 | | Massouras, Mandy Grandt, Ashley (Steven) Hubbell, Allison |
9 | | Grandt, and Jessica, Grant (Danielle), and Geoffrey |
10 | | Surprenant; his great-grandchildren, Brooke, Emma, Kate, Jake, |
11 | | and Baby Hubbell; his brother, Wilbert Grandt; and his |
12 | | stepbrother, Bob Bentz; therefore, be it
|
13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
15 | | his family and friends, the passing of Roger William Grandt; |
16 | | and be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of Roger Grandt as an expression of our |
19 | | sympathy.
