SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles Alton Cook of Chicago, who passed
4away on January 7, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on August 10, 1932 to Jesse and
6Rebecca Cook in Magnolia, Mississippi; he received his
7education in the Pike County School System in Magnolia; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He confessed his love for Christ at an early age
9and was baptized at Rose Hill Baptist Church; he met and
10married Ruth Omega Hurst in 1952; and
 
11    WHEREAS, He moved to Chicago in 1952 and joined the Great
12Hope Baptist Church; he worked for The Pyle National Company,
13retiring in 1994; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He later united with the New Philadelphia Baptist
15Church, where he met and married Sara Howard in 1989; he
16confessed his calling to the gospel in 1990 and united with
17Christ First Church; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth
19and his son, Marc; and

1    WHEREAS, Charles Alton Cook is survived by his wife, Sara;
2his sisters, Jaunita Tucker and Christine Allen; his brothers,
3Reverend Walter L. Cook and Albert Cook; his children, Alton
4(Veronica), Linda, Lorraine, Barbara, Theartis, Jenell
5(Ronald), Juan, Samuel (Dorothy), James (Heike), and Rita; his
610 grandchildren; his 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of
7nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore,
8be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
11his family and friends, the passing of Charles Alton Cook; and
12be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Charles Alton Cook as a symbol of
15our sincere sympathy.
