ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new |
|
Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Prohibits a Representative from serving more than 5 consecutive terms from the same Representative District. Prohibits a Senator from serving more than 3 consecutive terms from the same Legislative District. Prohibits a person who has served the maximum number of consecutive terms from serving another term in the same office from the same district until after the expiration of at least the next 2 terms. Effective upon being declared adopted, and applies to terms beginning on or after the second Wednesday in January 2011.

| CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the |
6 |
| electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general |
7 |
| election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of |
8 |
| this resolution a proposition to amend the Illinois |
9 |
| Constitution by adding Section 2.5 to Article IV as follows:

| SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS |
14 |
| (a) A person may not serve more than 5 consecutive terms of |
15 |
| office as a Representative from the same Representative |
16 |
| District. A person who has served 5 consecutive terms of office |
17 |
| as a Representative from the same Representative District may |
18 |
| not serve another term of office as a Representative from that |
19 |
| Representative District until after the expiration of at least |
20 |
| the next 2 terms of the office of Representative from that |
21 |
| Representative District following the conclusion of the |
22 |
| person's fifth consecutive term. |
