| AN ACT concerning elections.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 |
| Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section |
5 |
| 6-1 as follows:
|

| Sec. 6-1.
The
The provisions of this Article 6 (and of |
8 |
| Articles 14 and 18
hereof) so far as they are the same as those |
9 |
| of the provisions of "An Act
regulating the holding of |
10 |
| elections and declaring the result thereof in
cities, villages |
11 |
| and incorporated towns in this state", approved June 19,
1885, |
12 |
| as amended, (hereinafter sometimes referred to in this Article |
13 |
| as
the Act of 1885) shall be construed as a continuation of |
14 |
| such prior
provisions and not as a new enactment; and it is |
15 |
| declared to be the
legislative intent that any city, village or |
16 |
| incorporated town which has
heretofore adopted and become |
17 |
| entitled to the provisions of said Act of
1885, shall |
18 |
| automatically become subject to the provisions of this Article
|
19 |
| 6 and Articles 14 and 18 of this Act (as well as certain |
20 |
| sections in other
articles which are made specifically |
21 |
| applicable to such city, village or
incorporated town), which |
22 |
| three articles together shall be known as the
City Election |
23 |
| Law. |
