Amends the School Code. Requires the State Board of Education to adopt rules to provide standards for the certification of marital and family therapists employed by school boards. Provides that these rules shall include certification requirements to be met by (i) licensure as a marital and family therapist under the Marriage and Family Therapy Licensing Act and (ii) such other experience as the State Board deems appropriate for the position of marital and family therapist in a school system. Effective immediately.

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
5 |
| 21-25.5 as follows: |
6 |
| (105 ILCS 5/21-25.5 new) |

| Sec. 21-25.5. Marriage and family therapist certification. |
8 |
| Not later than June 1, 2010, the State Board of Education shall |
9 |
| adopt rules to provide standards for the certification of |
10 |
| marital and family therapists employed by school boards. These |
11 |
| rules shall include certification requirements to be met by (i) |
12 |
| licensure as a marital and family therapist under the Marriage |
13 |
| and Family Therapy Licensing Act and (ii) such other experience |
14 |
| as the State Board of Education deems appropriate for the |
15 |
| position of marital and family therapist in a school system.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
17 |
| becoming law.
