Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to more than 2 terms as Governor. Effective upon being declared adopted, and applies to each person elected Governor after the person elected Governor at the 2006 general election.

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |

| SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the |
6 |
| electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general |
7 |
| election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of |
8 |
| this resolution a proposition to amend Article V of the |
9 |
| Illinois Constitution by changing Section 2 as follows:

| THE EXECUTIVE

| SECTION 2. TERMS
|
14 |
| (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall |
15 |
| hold office for
four years beginning on the second Monday of |
16 |
| January after their
election and, except in the case of the |
17 |
| Lieutenant Governor, until their
successors are qualified. |
18 |
| They shall be elected at the general election
in 1978 and every |
19 |
| four years thereafter.

| (b) A person may not be elected to more than two terms as |
21 |
| Governor. An otherwise eligible person who has served as Acting |
22 |
| Governor or who has filled a vacancy in the office of Governor |
23 |
| as provided in Section 6 of this Article is not disqualified |
