Creates the Election Day Voter Registration Commission Act.
Creates a commission appointed by the legislative leaders to study
and report to the General Assembly on the possible implementation of election day voter registration.
Abolishes the commission and repeals the Act January 1, 2009. Effective
immediately.

| AN ACT concerning elections.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
5 |
| Election Day Voter Registration
Commission Act.
|
6 |
| Section 5. Commission created. The Election Day Voter |
7 |
| Registration Commission is created,
consisting of 8 members of |
8 |
| the General Assembly and 8 public members. The
President and |
9 |
| Minority Leader of the Senate and the Speaker and Minority |
10 |
| Leader
of the House of Representatives shall each appoint 2 |
11 |
| legislative members and 2
public members.
|
12 |
| The Election Day Voter Registration Commission shall study |
13 |
| and report to the General
Assembly on the possible |
14 |
| implementation of election day voter registration.
|
15 |
| The Commission shall
designate a chairman from among its |
16 |
| number, shall meet as frequently as
necessary at the call of |
17 |
| the chair, and shall report its findings to the
General |
18 |
| Assembly as expeditiously as possible.
|
19 |
| Commission members shall receive no compensation but shall |
20 |
| be reimbursed
for expenses incurred in the performance of their |
21 |
| duties from funds
appropriated for that purpose.

| The Commission is abolished January 1, 2009.
