| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives learned with sadness of the passing of the |
4 |
| Reverend Monsignor Charles Bourke Motsett, P.A., of Danville on |
5 |
| December 14, 2006; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Father Motsett was born on January 12, 1908, in |
7 |
| Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Charles and Clara (Bourke) |
8 |
| Motsett; he was preceded in death by his parents and one |
9 |
| brother, William J. Motsett; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, Father Motsett attended and graduated from |
11 |
| Spalding Institute in Peoria, the University of Notre Dame in |
12 |
| South Bend, Indiana, in 1931, and The Pontifical North American |
13 |
| College in Rome, Italy, in 1935; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Father Motsett was ordained into the priesthood in |
15 |
| Rome on December 8, 1934; returning to the United States in |
16 |
| 1935, he served as an assistant at two parishes, St. Mary's in |
17 |
| Canton and Visitation in Kewanee, and then was pastor of Our |
18 |
| Lady of Lourdes in Gibson City; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Father Motsett then became pastor of St. Paul's |
20 |
| Church in Danville in 1948 and served until 1974; he then went |
21 |
| to Sacred Heart in Gibson City until 1982; after leaving Gibson |
22 |
| City, he became chaplain of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville |
23 |
| until his retirement in 1986; and
|
24 |
| WHEREAS, Father Motsett was elevated to status of Monsignor |
25 |
| in 1993 and then Protonotory Apostolic in 2003; he was devoted |
26 |
| to both his church and city communities; and |
27 |
| WHEREAS, Father Motsett belonged to the Knights of Columbus |
28 |
| Danville Council 754, serving as chaplain for 3rd and 4th |
29 |
| Degrees; he was also a member of the Noon Kiwanis and Danville |
