| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois whish to congratulate Lake Land College on |
4 |
| the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its founding; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, On September 24, 1996, voters in 13 school |
6 |
| districts voted to form a community college district in east |
7 |
| central Illinois; the 13 original districts consisted of Casey, |
8 |
| Charleston, Cowden/Herrick, Cumberland, Kansas, Mattoon, |
9 |
| Neoga, Oakland, Shelbyville, Stewardson-Strasburg, Tower Hill, |
10 |
| Westfield, and Windsor; over the years, due to the strong |
11 |
| reputation of the school, the districts of Martinsville, |
12 |
| Beecher City, Effingham, Teutopolis, Grove Elementary |
13 |
| (northern Newton), Sullivan, Dieterich, Altamont, |
14 |
| Farina-LaGrove, Bethany, Brownstown, Findlay, Marshall, North |
15 |
| Clay County, Paris Crestwood, Ramsey, Shiloh |
16 |
| (Hume/Brocton/Redmon), Arthur, Lovington, Pana, Paris Union |
17 |
| 95, and the northeast corner of the Vandalia district, all |
18 |
| joined with Lake Land College; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Virgil H. Judge was named the first president of |
20 |
| Lake Land College on March 1, 1967; classes started on |
21 |
| September 6, 1967 in temporary facilities; the second |
22 |
| president, Doctor Robert D. Webb, assumed the position of |
23 |
| president on July 1, 1972 and during his tenure oversaw the |
24 |
| full recognition and accreditation by the North Central |
25 |
| Association of Colleges and Universities; Doctor David V. |
26 |
| Schultz took over as president on August 1, 1984 and oversaw |
27 |
| the college's transition from quarters to semesters; Doctor |
28 |
| Robert K. Luther became the fourth president on July 1, 1988 |
29 |
| and guided the college to numerous achievements, including the |
30 |
| dedication of many new buildings, annexation of new districts, |
31 |
| and a milestone enrollment of over 10,000 at the end of Spring |
32 |
| 2004; Doctor Bill J. Thallemer assumed the presidency of Lake |
33 |
| Land College on July 1, 2006; and
