| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of former |
4 |
| State Representative Mary Jeanne "Dolly" Hallstrom of Evanston |
5 |
| on Wednesday, August 2, 2006; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Mary Jeanne Louise DeBats was born in East Orange, |
7 |
| New Jersey, on December 21, 1924; she attended Catholic |
8 |
| boarding school and moved to Chicago to study nursing at Loyola |
9 |
| University; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, She received the nickname "Dolly" from her |
11 |
| husband, Gordon Hallstrom, whom she met in the mid-1940s; they |
12 |
| married in 1946; he preceded her in death; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Hallstrom first began working to help children |
14 |
| with disabilities in 1955, when she was a member of the North |
15 |
| Shore Junior Women's Club; beginning in 1968, she served for |
16 |
| two years as a member of the federal White House Conference |
17 |
| Commission on Mental Health; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, She was elected to the General Assembly in 1978 |
19 |
| and later served on the Illinois Human Rights Commission, |
20 |
| having been reappointed in 2003; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mary Jeanne "Dolly" Hallstrom has |
22 |
| been deeply felt by many, especially her children, Gordon |
23 |
| Timothy Hallstrom and Amy Bejarano; her grandson, Etienne |
24 |
| (Shelli) Bejarano; and her future great-grandchild, Cooper |
25 |
| Riley; she was the sister-in-law of Alice Hallstrom and Jean |
26 |
| Ligocki and the fond aunt of seven nieces and nephews; |

| therefore, be it
