| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Robert T. |
4 |
| Ferguson of Flora on the occasion of the dedication of the |
5 |
| Robert T. Ferguson Post Office Building; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Ferguson's association with the post office |
7 |
| began at a young age; he grew up in Flora, and one of his daily |
8 |
| chores as a child was to pick up the mail each day from General |
9 |
| Delivery for his family and others on his street; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, He began his career with the postal service in |
11 |
| Harvey, where he worked as a city carrier and clerk from |
12 |
| September of 1954 to June of 1957; he moved back to Flora and |
13 |
| worked as a clerk-carrier for seven years before serving as |
14 |
| Assistant Postmaster for twelve years; he went on to serve as |
15 |
| Postmaster at the Flora Post Office for ten years; prior to his |
16 |
| retirement, he also served three years as Postmaster of the |
17 |
| Collinsville Post Office; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, During his tenure with the U.S. Postal Service, |
19 |
| Mr. Ferguson received five Outstanding Superior Accomplishment |
20 |
| awards; he received three letters of commendation and two |
21 |
| letters of appreciation from the District Manager; he was also |
22 |
| qualified as a Postmaster Trainer, and traveled to various post |
23 |
| offices throughout Southern Illinois to train newly appointed |
24 |
| postmasters; and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, He has been a member of the National Association |
26 |
| of Letter Carriers for 43 years and a member of the National |
27 |
| Association of Postmasters for 30 years; he is a veteran of the |
28 |
| U.S. Navy and served during World War II; he is involved in |
29 |
| numerous community service organizations and gives generously |
30 |
| of his time and energy; and
