| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 100th |
4 |
| anniversary of Broadview Mansion in Normal; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, The mansion was built 100 years ago by Bird and |
6 |
| Margaret Van Leer and sits on high ground where Fell Avenue |
7 |
| meets Clinton Place in Normal; a five-story bell tower that |
8 |
| Mrs. Van Leer had built in her husband's memory sits behind the |
9 |
| mansion; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, The Van Leers were devout Christians and wished |
11 |
| for their estate to be used for a Christian cause upon their |
12 |
| passing, so Mrs. Van Leer created the Immanuel Bible Foundation |
13 |
| to use and care for the property after she and her husband |
14 |
| passed away; the Foundation developed a lending library for |
15 |
| churches to borrow sheet music and recorded music; Boy Scouts, |
16 |
| Girl Scouts, and the Daughters of the American Revolution are |
17 |
| among church groups that used the building during the early |
18 |
| years; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, Through the Foundation, the mansion seeks to be a |
20 |
| place of service and gathering for all of Christianity; today |
21 |
| it is offered as a place to host Bible studies, prayer |
22 |
| meetings, Christian training and planning sessions, day |
23 |
| retreats, missionary groups, and other related events and also |
24 |
| works to provide the general population with a serene setting |
25 |
| for meetings and events such as bridal showers, luncheons, and |
26 |
| recitals; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
28 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

| we recognize the 100th anniversary of Broadview Mansion; and be |
30 |
