HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to honor the Champaign Police
4 Department's Cops for Kids program, especially for its support
5 of Special Olympics Illinois; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The Cops for Kids program is sponsoring a golf
7 outing in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special
8 Olympics on Friday, August 18, 2006; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Across the United States, law enforcement
10 officers carry the Special Olympics Torch on intrastate relays
11 to bring the torch to the Opening Ceremonies of each state's
12 Summer Special Olympics Games; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The dedication of more than 75,000 police chiefs,
14 police officers, Secret Service and FBI agents, military
15 police, sheriffs, state troopers, prison guards, and other law
16 enforcement personnel in 50 states and 30 countries generates
17 more than $15 million annually for Special Olympics and garners
18 media coverage that reaches audiences in 35,000 communities
19 throughout the United States; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The mission of Special Olympics is to provide
21 year-round sports training and athletic competition in a
22 variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with
23 intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing
24 opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate
25 courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts,
26 skills, and friendship with their families, other Special
27 Olympics athletes, and the community; therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we honor the Champaign Police Department's Cops for Kids

1 program, especially for its support of Special Olympics
2 Illinois, and we wish the department well in its efforts at
3 this year's golf outing; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the Cops for Kids program as an expression of our
6 esteem.
