HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with regret of the death in Iraq of
4 U.S. Army Corporal Shawn T. Lasswell Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada,
5 formerly of Alton, on Sunday, April 23, 2006; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was born on July 10, 1984, in Alton and grew up
7 in the Alton area; he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, when he was
8 11; while in high school, he was active in the ROTC program;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, He always wanted to serve his country and joined
11 the U.S. Army after high school; he was looking forward to a
12 law enforcement career as a S.W.A.T. officer with the Las Vegas
13 Metro Police Department; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He enjoyed quality time with family and friends
15 and working with remote control cars and airplanes and playing
16 the guitar; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He was assigned to C Troop, 7th Squadron, 10th
18 Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division at Fort
19 Hood, Texas; his unit was deployed to the Middle East in
20 December; and
 
21     WHEREAS, The passing of Corporal Lasswell has been deeply
22 felt by many, especially his mother and stepfather, Cathy and
23 Ron Zehren; his father and stepmother, Shawn Thomas and Kim
24 Lasswell Sr.; his brothers and sisters, Kevin Lasswell, Vincent
25 Gill, Toliver Lasswell, Jessie Lasswell, and Gabriele
26 Lasswell; his grandparents, Charles and Judy Lewis, Joel and
27 Judy Lasswell, and Johnnie and Jeff Powell; his
28 great-grandparents, Roger and Evelyn Reigart; his many aunts
29 and uncles, including Carolyn, Chris, Candy, Jennifer, and
30 Dawn; his other extended family; and his many friends; he was

1 preceded in death by his grandmother, Carol Lewis, and his
2 great-grandmother, Vacle Lasswell; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5 we mourn the passing of Corporal Shawn T. Lasswell Jr., and we
6 extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
7 who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Corporal Lasswell and
9 his willingness to serve his country, which led to him making
10 the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
13 sympathy.
