| WHEREAS, Katherine "Kizzy" Marco of LaGrange has been named |

| "Young Woman of the Year" by the West Suburban Chamber of |
4 |
| Commerce and Industry; the award is one of four awards given by |
5 |
| the Chamber as part of the Pride of the Future Youth Awards; |
6 |
| and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Kizzy is a senior at Nazareth Academy, where she |
8 |
| has been a member of the Community Memorial Foundation's Youth |
9 |
| Initiative, French and Spanish clubs, fall play crews, |
10 |
| Catholics Opposed to Racism, and Peacebuilders Outreach team; |
11 |
| she was coordinator/planner for red ribbon week, is a big |
12 |
| sister to freshmen, a senior leader/planner for freshman |
13 |
| orientation, and a focus group leader; and
|
14 |
| WHEREAS, Miss Marco spearheaded the effort by the Youth |
15 |
| Initiative to bring Operation: Snowball (healthy decision |
16 |
| making) to Nazareth; she led efforts to develop a plan to |
17 |
| implement the program, gave up time in the summer to train for |
18 |
| the program, and then implemented the program; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, She serves her church in several ways, including |
20 |
| as a catechist for preschool religious education and cantor at |
21 |
| St. Francis Xavier Teen Mass; she is a Hodgkin's tutor and a |
22 |
| team captain/ recruiter for the American Cancer Society's Relay |
23 |
| for Life; she volunteers with the American Cancer Society's |
24 |
| Making Strides for Breast Cancer, the Victorian Manor |
25 |
| (LaGrange) residential facility for elders, the Hole in One |
26 |
| Club (LaGrange) after school program, BEHIV (Better Existence |
27 |
| with HIV), Project Linus, Children's Memorial Hospital |
28 |
| (summer), and Phantom Lake YMCA Camp in Mukwonago, Wisconsin, |
29 |
| as a camp counselor; and
|
30 |
| WHEREAS, Miss Marco has overcome a major obstacle to become |
31 |
| the person she is today; when she was 13 years old, an accident |
