| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Renato "Ron" Turano of Burr Ridge was recently |
| 3 |
| elected to serve in the Italian Parliament as the first senator |
| 4 |
| to represent a new district of expatriate countrymen; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Turano, the president of a Berwyn-based |
| 6 |
| bakery, holds dual citizenship in the United States and Italy; |
| 7 |
| he moved to Chicago from southern Italy as a teenager; he |
| 8 |
| helped his family build its business from a 600-square-foot |
| 9 |
| bakery in Portage Park into an enterprise with 650 employees |
| 10 |
| and three factories; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He will represent about 200,000 Italian citizens |
| 12 |
| in the U.S. and 150,000 in Canada, Mexico, Central America, and |
| 13 |
| the Caribbean; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He is affiliated with the L'Unione party and will |
| 15 |
| become one of 315 members of the Senato della Repubblica; |
| 16 |
| giving expatriate Italians the right to vote was first promoted |
| 17 |
| in 2001; he was the top vote-getter out of more than a dozen |
| 18 |
| candidates for the North American seat, earning 11,634 votes; |
| 19 |
| only citizens who have Italian or dual citizenship were able to |
| 20 |
| vote; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Turano will serve a five-year term beginning |
| 22 |
| at the end of the month; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 24 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 25 |
| we congratulate Mr. Renato "Ron" Turano on his election to the |
| 26 |
| Italian Parliament; and be it further
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 28 |
| presented to Mr. Turano as an expression of our esteem.
