HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of John C. Kriegsman of Pekin, who
5 passed away on October 13, 2005; and
 
6     WHEREAS, John Kriegsman was born on July 31, 1912, in
7 Peoria, to Philip J. and Emma Tapping Kriegsman; he married
8 Juanita Martin on January 6, 1940; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mr. Kriegsman attended the University of
10 Illinois; and
 
11     WHEREAS, John Kriegsman was a World War II veteran, serving
12 from May 12, 1941 to March 10, 1946, with the 77th Infantry
13 Division Artillery; he was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific
14 Theater from March 30, 1944 to November 12, 1945, where he was
15 an Air Observation Pilot; he attained the rank of major and
16 flew planes from land bases and LST ships; he participated in
17 the Guam, Leyte, and Okinawa campaigns, receiving the Silver
18 Star, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Defense
19 Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with 3
20 Bronze Stars, Bronze Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon
21 with Bronze Star, and Victory Medal; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Mr. Kriegsman was chairman of the board of
23 Kriegsman Warehouses in Pekin; he was also an active member in
24 his community; he belonged to the William Schafer Post 44 of
25 the American Legion and he was a founding member of the Pekin
26 Civic Chorus; he was a member of the Rotary Club of Pekin since
27 1946, serving as a past president and was a Paul Harris Fellow;
28 and he was a member of the Empire Lodge 126 AF&AM Scottish Rite
29 Bodies Valley of Peoria, Mohammed Temple Shrine, and the
30 Lakeside Cemetery Association; and

1     WHEREAS, He founded Pekin's annual 4th of July fireworks,
2 was involved in various transportation clubs in the Pekin area,
3 and was a past president of the Pekin Chamber of Commerce and
4 the vice-president of the State Chamber of Commerce in 1956; he
5 was a member of the Pekin Community High School Board; and he
6 served in the State House of Representatives in 1973; and
 
7     WHEREAS, John Kriegsman was also active in his faith; he
8 was a life-long member of Grace United Methodist Church, where
9 he served on various boards and sang in the church choir for
10 more than 70 years; he was a member of the Methodist Men and
11 was a Sunday School teacher; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mr. Kriegsman loved to drive and probably received
13 more speeding tickets than anyone; he even received two tickets
14 on the same day in the same town; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He is preceded in death by his wife, his brother,
16 and his two sisters; and
 
17     WHEREAS, The passing of John C. Kriegsman will be felt by
18 all who knew and loved him, especially his sons, John M.
19 Kriegsman, James W.C. (Sandy) Kriegsman, and A. Richard (Nancy)
20 Kriegsman; his two grandsons; and his two granddaughters;
21 therefore, be it
 
22     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24 we mourn, along with all who knew and loved him, the death of
25 John C. Kriegsman; and be it further
 
26     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to the family of John C. Kriegsman as an expression
28 of our sympathy.
