| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, TECH 2006 is celebrating its 15th anniversary at |
3 |
| the State Capitol Building in Springfield on February 16, 2006, |
4 |
| at which students and teachers from throughout Illinois will |
5 |
| demonstrate to State legislators and other visitors the vast |
6 |
| number of ways that students are using technology to learn; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, More than 5,500 Illinois students of all ages have |
8 |
| benefited from participating in TECH 2006 school technology |
9 |
| demonstrations since 1991; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, TECH 2006 is a statewide initiative representing |
11 |
| every legislative district in Illinois and supported by a broad |
12 |
| range of education and business organizations to increase |
13 |
| awareness about classroom technology and the role it plays in |
14 |
| preparing students for the workplace of their future; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Due to a commitment to improving technology |
16 |
| education, Illinois advanced from 49th place in 1998 in |
17 |
| educational technology to 1st place in the nation by 2002; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, The need to provide professional development that |
19 |
| empowers Illinois teachers to become 21st century learners who |
20 |
| can prepare their students for the challenges of the 21st |
21 |
| century continues; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, Awareness and support for educational technology |
23 |
| must be increased by raising its visibility in a positive |
24 |
| context and by communicating that information fluency and 21st |
25 |
| century skills are valuable and necessary for the future of |
26 |
| Illinois; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, Administrators, teachers, and students encourage |
28 |
| the State of Illinois to provide sufficient funding to support |
29 |
| technology, telecommunications, and Internet access in order |
