| WHEREAS, In an exciting double overtime finish, the |
| 3 |
| Lincoln-Way East Griffins defeated the Maine South High School |
| 4 |
| Hawks by a score of 30 to 24 to win the IHSA Class 8A State |
| 5 |
| Championship football game on Saturday, November 26, 2005; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, This is the first Class 8A championship game to be |
| 7 |
| played in overtime; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, To reach the championship game, the Griffins |
| 9 |
| defeated Thornton, Lincoln-Way Central, Brother Rice, and |
| 10 |
| Wheaton Warrenville South in the IHSA playoffs; the team |
| 11 |
| finished the season with a record of 14 wins and no losses; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, The Lincoln-Way East Griffins are the first |
| 13 |
| football program in Illinois history to win a State |
| 14 |
| championship within five years of playing their first game; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Lincoln-Way East is the first high school football |
| 16 |
| team to have played in the State playoffs in each of its five |
| 17 |
| seasons; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, The head coach of the Griffins is Rob Zvonar; his |
| 19 |
| assistant coaches are Joel Pallissard, Jack Eddy, Mike Franta, |

| Ron Tomczak, Steve Tomczak, Ryan Gabey, Dave Woodburn, Lance |
