| WHEREAS, The Members of the House of Representatives of the |
3 |
| State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Ella |
4 |
| Jean Jefferson on October 9, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Ella Jean Jefferson was born on July 11, 1933 to |
6 |
| the union of Eugene and Lillian Peel;
Ella was united in holy |
7 |
| matrimony to Marvin Jefferson of Memphis, Tennessee; this union |
8 |
| was a family of love and compassion that included seven |
9 |
| children; this devoted and loving marriage flourished for 45 |
10 |
| years until Marvin departed to glory; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Ella was educated in the Chicago Public School |
12 |
| system, attending Abbott Elementary and Englewood High School; |
13 |
| most of her education centered on working with the development |
14 |
| of children; she received several certificates and awards; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Ella possessed the ability to work with complex |
16 |
| families; her love and destiny work was that of a foster parent |
17 |
| for the Department of Children and Family Services; she was |
18 |
| grandmother to more than 44 children throughout the Illinois |
19 |
| region in the Department of Children and Family Services; in |
20 |
| addition, she provided counseling and role modeling for parents |
21 |
| to help them to obtain good and effective parenting skills; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, Ella was a pillar of strength to her family, her |
23 |
| church members, and anyone who had the fortune to come into her |
24 |
| presence; her professional trade was upholstery, and she worked |
25 |
| as a seamstress; she was an entrepreneur who manufactured new |
26 |
| and used furniture; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, Ella was baptized and attended Greater Harvest |
28 |
| Church; it was a wonderful beginning to her journey in Christ, |
29 |
| 38 years ago; she served in the ministry of music and was the |
30 |
| wife of a deacon; and
