| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |

| Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in |
4 |
| the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and
|

| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Terrence Dashon |
6 |
| Howard was the recipient of the NAACP Image Award, an |
7 |
| independent Spirit Award, and a Chicago Film Critics Award for |
8 |
| his work in Malcolm D. Lee's "The Best Man"; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, Terrence Howard was born on March 11, 1969 in |
10 |
| Chicago; he graduated from the Pratt Institute with a degree in |
11 |
| chemical engineering; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Howard was deeply influenced by his |
13 |
| grandmother, New York stage actress Minnie Gentry; Terrence |
14 |
| apparently shared the same talents as his grandmother, as he |
15 |
| gravitated toward acting; and
|
16 |
| WHEREAS, He worked at the craft and started his career on |
17 |
| the small screen where he first nabbed a small appearance on |
18 |
| the series "Family Matters" and "Coach"; he made his official |
19 |
| debut at the age of 23, when he had a small role in the |
20 |
| made-for-TV movie, "The Jacksons: An American Dream"; two years |
21 |
| later, he landed a recurring role in "Picket Fences" and in |
22 |
| 1995, appeared briefly opposite Richard Dreyfuss in "Mr. |
23 |
| Holland's Opus"; that same year, Howard impressed critics in |
24 |
| the film "Dead Presidents" and then hooked viewers onto UPN's |
25 |
| "Sparks" in 1996; and

| WHEREAS, He won a lead part in the basketball film, "Sunset |

| Park" before continuing to appear in a string of supporting |
28 |
| roles in "The Players Club", "The Best Man", "Big Momma's |

| House", and "Angel Eyes" during the late '90s and early '00s; |
