| WHEREAS, Abhi Gulati is one of 20 students named to the |
3 |
| 2005 All-USA High School Academic First Team, USA TODAY's |
4 |
| recognition program for outstanding high school students; each |
5 |
| receives a trophy and a $2,500 cash award; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, The 20 students were selected from more than 1,600 |
7 |
| nominees nationwide as representatives of all outstanding |
8 |
| students; judges considered academics, leadership, and most |
9 |
| importantly, how students have extended their intellectual |
10 |
| abilities beyond the classroom; and |
11 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Gulati was born in 1986 in Chennai, India, to |
12 |
| Rakesh and Radha Gulati; his family moved to the United States |
13 |
| the following year, and he spent most of his childhood in |
14 |
| Bloomington; he attended University High School in Normal his |
15 |
| freshman year, and then decided to apply to the Illinois |
16 |
| Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) in Aurora for the |
17 |
| opportunities it would give him to pursue his interests in math |
18 |
| and science; and
|
19 |
| WHEREAS, At IMSA, he has been involved in Student Council, |
20 |
| head of the Council's Academic Committee, and a member of |
21 |
| varsity teams for soccer, tennis, and cross-country; through |
22 |
| IMSA's mentorship program, he worked with University of Chicago |
23 |
| professor Laszlo Babai on a research project in pure math; next |
24 |
| year he will attend the California Institute of Technology and |
25 |
| major in math; and
|

| WHEREAS, His awards and achievements include |

| Siemens-Westinghouse Research Competition Semifinalist, Intel |

| Science Talent Search Finalist, USA Today All-USA Academic 3rd |

| Team, three-time Qualifier for USA Math Olympiad, attendee at |
