| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 |
| Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Willie |
4 |
| Jewel Jackson-Hill of Chicago on May 5, 2005; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hill was born November 23, 1918, in |
6 |
| Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Sarah Arline Jackson and Willie |
7 |
| Jackson; his mother later married Willie Hill; his mother was |
8 |
| an evangelist and instilled in him his religious beliefs; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, He received his formal education in Birmingham, |
10 |
| Alabama, and Chicago; he furthered his education in the study |
11 |
| of electricity; and
|
12 |
| WHEREAS, In 1983, he married Emma Jean "Lil" Brandon in |
13 |
| Chicago; to this union, he lovingly embraced five |
14 |
| step-children; "Lil" was very strong in politics and that was |
15 |
| the beginning of his political interest; he became secretary of |
16 |
| his union at U.S. Steel; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, He was employed as a police officer with the City |
18 |
| of Chicago; after leaving the police department, he was |
19 |
| employed by U.S. Steel until he retired; he re-entered the |
20 |
| workforce as a security guard for the City of Chicago and then |
21 |
| for A.R. Security; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, He was a very determined and interesting man who |
23 |
| lived his life to its fullest; he loved traveling and also |
24 |
| loved fishing, family gatherings, and politics; he was fondly |
25 |
| referred to as "Sugarman", "Bill", or "Ghost" by his family, |
26 |
| friends, and co-workers; and
|
27 |
| WHEREAS, He worked with and was known by many politicians |
28 |
| such as NewHouser, Judge Medford, Brookins, Stroger, Niles |
29 |
| Sherman, Dorothy Tillman, Barack Obama, the late Harold |
