HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Karyn
4 Esta Grunloh of Altamont on Friday, April 22, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mrs. Grunloh was born January 27, 1942, in
6 Vandalia to Clayton and Esta Stroup Wallace; she married
7 Lawrence R. "Larry" Grunloh on May 18, 1963, in St. Clare
8 Catholic Church in Altamont; he preceded her in death on March
9 15, 1993; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She was a seventh-grade and eighth-grade
11 literature teacher for Altamont Community Unit School
12 District, where she worked since 1979 and was the district
13 language arts curriculum coordinator for kindergarten through
14 twelfth grade; she taught at St. Anthony's grade and high
15 schools in Effingham from 1962 to 1979; she was an Illinois
16 State Board of Education State English and Language Arts
17 Writer/Consultant of Performance Descriptors/Assessment
18 Tasks/Rubrics related to Illinois State Standards and
19 Outcomes; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mrs. Grunloh was a member of St. Clare Catholic
21 Church and belonged to several professional organizations,
22 including the National Road Reading Council (president), the
23 East-Central EIU Reading Council (president), the Illinois
24 Reading Council (Regional 6 Coordinator, Technology
25 Coordinator, Board of Directors), the International Reading
26 Council, the Illinois and National Whole Language Council, the
27 Illinois Council of Affective Reading Education, the
28 Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the
29 Illinois Council of Teachers of English, the National Education
30 Association, and the Illinois Education Association; and
 
31     WHEREAS, Mrs. Grunloh was honored for her work at the

1 International Reading Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada, when she
2 was one of four recipients of the Community Service Award in
3 1991; she enjoyed spending time with family, working with
4 students and teachers, coordinating programs, reading, antique
5 shopping, community projects, and traveling; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The passing of Karen E. Grunloh has been deeply
7 felt by many, especially her children, Lisa Smith and husband
8 Scott and Cheri Hammer and husband Chris; her brothers, Gary
9 Wallace and wife Janice and Ted Wallace and wife Sharon; her
10 sister, Sue Ferrall and husband Eddie; her brother-in-law, Bob
11 Grunloh and wife Terry; her sisters-in law, Theresa Weidman and
12 husband Henry, Martha Cameron and husband Bill, Becky Ragan and
13 husband Dave, Vera Tomlinson and husband Dale, and Doris
14 Wallace; her grandson, Derek Smith; and her granddaughters,
15 Myah Smith and Chrisha Hammer of Altamont; in addition to her
16 husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her brother,
17 Robert Wallace; and her sister, Katie Ehlke; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20 we mourn the passing of Karyn E. Grunloh, and we extend our
21 deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and
22 loved her; and be it further
 
23     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
24 presented to her family as an expression of our sincere
25 condolences.
