| WHEREAS, Mark Boerckel of United Township High School in |

| East Moline has been named one of 10 winners of the Chicago |
| 4 |
| Tribune's 2005 All-State Academic Team scholarship |
| 5 |
| competition; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Each of the 10 All-State Academic Team winners |
| 7 |
| receives a $2,000 scholarship from the Chicago Tribune |
| 8 |
| Foundation, which supports civic, educational, cultural, and |
| 9 |
| journalistic endeavors; the 10 winners and 61 regional |
| 10 |
| finalists also receive Olympic-style medallions; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The 250 high school seniors entered in the |
| 12 |
| competition all demonstrated strong academic achievement and |
| 13 |
| involvement in their communities, but the 10-member All-State |
| 14 |
| Academic Team winners are especially impressive; each |
| 15 |
| maintains an A average despite carrying numerous advanced |
| 16 |
| placement and honors courses; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Mark Boerckel is a straight A student who is |
| 18 |
| enrolled in every Advanced Placement course available at his |
| 19 |
| school; he scored a 35 out of 36 on the ACT exam; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, His hard work and dedication have made him a |
| 21 |
| National Merit Finalist; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, He is also a stand-out athlete at his school; he |
| 23 |
| is the captain of his swim team and holds the record in the |
| 24 |
| Quad Cities area for the 200-meter free style; and
|
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, He plans to attend Clemson University on a full |
| 26 |
| scholarship, where he hopes to major in business or economics; |
| 27 |
| and
|

| WHEREAS, He is very involved in his community serving as a |
