2 | WHEREAS, Dr. Lawrence M. Baskin will retire as | ||||||
3 | Superintendent of Glen Ellyn Community Consolidated School | ||||||
4 | District 89 on June 29, 2005, after serving
11 years in that | ||||||
5 | capacity; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, He was born May 27, 1947, in New York; he and his | ||||||
7 | wife, Barbara, have three daughters, Lindsay, Jamie, and Traci; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, He received a B.S. in history and education from | ||||||
10 | Bradley University in 1970, a M. Ed in Ed. Admin. & Supervision | ||||||
11 | from Loyola University of Chicago in 1973, and a Ed.D in Ed. | ||||||
12 | Admin. & Supervision from Loyola University of Chicago in 1984; | ||||||
13 | he also received advanced professional training over the years; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Baskin has devoted much of his professional | ||||||
16 | career to public education as a teacher, assistant principal, | ||||||
17 | principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, From 1992 to 1994, he was vice-president of the | ||||||
19 | Executive MBA program at Lake Forest Graduate School of | ||||||
20 | Management; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Throughout his professional career, Dr. Baskin | ||||||
22 | has been focused on establishing and maintaining high quality | ||||||
23 | schools; his unique experiences and accomplishments in | ||||||
24 | educational leadership provided him with an enriched | ||||||
25 | background to meet the many challenges that face public | ||||||
26 | education; and
| ||||||
27 | WHEREAS, One of the hallmarks of his superintendency has | ||||||
28 | been his collaborative approach and leadership with each member | ||||||
29 | of the Board of Education and with the Board as a whole; and

| |||||||
1 | WHEREAS, He has been a presenter on a number of topics, | ||||||
2 | including Evaluating Principal Effectiveness, Culture in | ||||||
3 | School District Operations, and Communication Under Fire; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, He has served as a member of the Governors Task | ||||||
5 | Force on Education, as the Chairperson of the Board of | ||||||
6 | Directors for the Cooperative Association for Special | ||||||
7 | Education and the DuPage County Superintendents Organization, | ||||||
8 | and the Co-Chairperson for the Consortium for Educational | ||||||
9 | Change; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, During his tenure, he has been constant in his | ||||||
11 | beliefs, has always been positive and proactive in his personal | ||||||
12 | and professional style of leadership, and has been a frequent | ||||||
13 | visitor to the schools and classrooms in the district; he knows | ||||||
14 | every staff member by name and genuinely cares about each one, | ||||||
15 | knows students by name and interacts with them on a personal | ||||||
16 | level, makes people feel welcome, is a good listener, and has a | ||||||
17 | great sense of humor; most importantly, he has demonstrated his | ||||||
18 | unwavering advocacy for children, striving to ensure that all | ||||||
19 | students would rather be at school than at a baseball game; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
22 | NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
23 | we thank Dr. Baskin for his many years of service and | ||||||
24 | outstanding leadership in public education and congratulate | ||||||
25 | him on his retirement plans of playing golf and watching the | ||||||
26 | University of Arizona Wildcats play college basketball; and be | ||||||
27 | it further

28 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
29 | presented to Dr. Lawrence M. Baskin as an expression of our | ||||||
30 | appreciation.
