| WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson Armour will retire as Superintendent of |
3 |
| Schools, Fairview School District 72 in Skokie, at the |
4 |
| completion of the 2004-2005 school year; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Armour received his B.A. with honors in |
6 |
| American Intellectual History and English
from the University |
7 |
| of Wisconsin-Madison and his Ed.D. in Educational Psychology |
8 |
| from Loyola University of Chicago; he also attended Harvard |
9 |
| Graduate School of Education; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, His experience in education has spanned 36 years, |
11 |
| from 1968 to 2005 (except for one full year of international |
12 |
| travel); he has been a Teacher, a Coordinator/Teacher, an |
13 |
| Instructor at NIU's College of Education, an Assistant |
14 |
| Principal, a Principal, and a Superintendent; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, From 1996 to 2005, during his tenure as |
16 |
| Superintendent, Dr. Armour worked with the School Board and |
17 |
| community to complete Fairview's most significant facility |
18 |
| program since 1951 and to resolve Fairview's long-standing |
19 |
| financial crisis; he provided leadership to negotiate a 12-year |
20 |
| historic teachers' contract and worked with the School Board |
21 |
| and union to move beyond a previous strike and labor conflict; |
22 |
| he provided leadership in curriculum and program reviews and |
23 |
| improvements in all major areas; he also led the development of |
24 |
| a long-range educational Strategic Plan for Fairview, set high |
25 |
| standards for the employment, retention, and granting of tenure |
26 |
| of teachers, provided leadership for community and District |
27 |
| crises, and taught as an adjunct faculty member for DePaul |
28 |
| University since 1999; and
|
29 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Armour is married to Joan K. Weaver, and they |
30 |
| have two children, Molly and Alexander; therefore, be it
