| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Many employers require their employees to be at |
3 |
| least 18 years of age, and this leaves many youth at a |
4 |
| disadvantage in finding work; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, It is very difficult to find a job without |
6 |
| previous working experience; and
|
7 |
| WHEREAS, Many youth currently carry responsibilities that |
8 |
| require a job due to financial challenges; and
|
9 |
| WHEREAS, College expenses are constantly increasing, as |
10 |
| funding for all schools is cut; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Parents alone cannot always be expected to pay the |
12 |
| high costs of college; and
|
13 |
| WHEREAS, More than 70% of unemployed young people are |
14 |
| African-American or Hispanic; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, Congress has cut more than $300 million from the |
16 |
| employment and job training program; and
|
17 |
| WHEREAS, Even a minimum wage job for the summer is a |
18 |
| significant boost to the long-term employment prospects for |
19 |
| high school students; therefore, be it
|
20 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
21 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
22 |
| the House of Representatives calls on all public and private |
23 |
| high schools to form relationships with local businesses in |
24 |
| order to offer part-time jobs to students from local high |
25 |
| schools; and be it further
